Limitations of the Registry

The Interagency Council furnishes data about the providers as reported and submitted by the provider.  The Interagency Council does not verify the validity or accuracy of the information submitted by the provider.  The Interagency Council will not police, screen, or reject anyone who presents themselves as a professional who meets the Interagency and ATSA standards.  The responsibility of verifying the accuracy and validity of a treatment provider’s credentials, qualifications, competency, experience, training, treatment modality, assessment methods, and ethical practices rests solely on the treatment provider, the referring sources to that provider, the client, and the treatment provider’s licensing board.

The Registry is not a license or certification by the State of Louisiana for treatment providers.  The purpose of the standards is to provide guidelines for sexual offender therapists and treatment providers in the state and is a valuable list of individuals who have presented themselves with expertise and training in the field.  These standards do not imply that a particular treatment provider is endorsed or considered most competent by the State.  However, it is expected that registered providers are most likely to utilize effective and updated treatment methods and should be more specialized in sexual offender treatment and assessment than less trained or experienced general mental health practitioners.  Any complaint regarding a treatment provider's services should be channeled to that provider's licensing board.  The Interagency Council will maintain the provider on the list annually as long as the provider renews his/her Registry application or a request is made to remove the provider from the Registry.
