criteria for the three (3) types of Registry membership classifications
listed in the Sexual Offender Treatment Provider Registry
NOTE:
This Registry is NOT a license or certification by the State of Louisiana for treatment providers.
The purpose of the requirement is to provide a standard for sexual offender
therapists and treatment providers in the state and is a valuable list
of individuals who have demonstrated expertise and training in the field.
The standard does not imply that a particular treatment provider is endorsed
or considered most competent by the State. However, registered treatment
providers are most likely to utilize effective and updated treatment methods
and should be more specialized in sexual offender treatment and assessment
than less trained or experienced general mental health practitioners.
Any complaint regarding a treatment provider's services should be channeled
to that provider's licensing board. If a treatment provider is in non-compliance
with their licensing board's ethics or standards and/or if their status
regarding the requirements of the Registry are questionable or changed
(i.e. licensed, suspended, convicted of a felony offense, etc.), then
that provider will be removed from the provider list.
